Wednesday, October 12 - Off to Arizona, and Climbing Camelback Mountain

Our trip began on Wednesday, October 12 arriving in Phoenix at about 11:30 am. Right off the bat we headed for the nearest Rubio's Tacos location for lunch, a favorite of Ginger's when she’d lived there.

Our hotel was The Wigwam, a historic hotel located in the Litchfield Park area near Phoenix. The first hotel guests were welcomed back in November 1929 and the property has grown significantly since then.

Since we didn't have too much daylight left (Arizona does not observe Daylight Saving Time) we dropped our bags, evaluated our options, and headed out to hike the Cholla Trail leading to the top of Camelback Mountain. The trail is about 2.5 miles out and back, which doesn't seem like much, until you start hiking. It was one of the most strenuous hikes Ginger had ever done as it had some very steep, almost vertical, sections and included some scrambling over boulders. After catching our breath at the top and admiring the view we headed back down.

That night we stopped in at Walmart to grab a club sandwich and grapes for dinner as well as some liquid provisions for future hikes. It was at this Walmart that Ginger discovered something that changed her life, Bai Kula Watermelon water. If you like watermelon, you have to try this stuff. She now buys it by the case off Amazon on a regular basis.

Then it was back to the room where we decided to try the hot tub. Sadly, it wasn’t hot, so we didn’t stay long and then it was time for bed.
