Monday, October 17 - Side Trip to Sedona

On this day we drove up to Sedona, another area on Ginger's bucket list.

Sedona is located in the Red Rocks Area, of the state, and indeed there are a great many beautiful red colored rock formations. We stopped in at the Tourist Office to get our bearings and the very helpful woman told us we needed to see the view from the Sedona Airport. We took her advice and indeed the view from the plateau near the airport was stunning.

Continuing on, we drove to the trailhead of the West Fort Trail of Oak Creek. We knew this was a popular hike and were not surprised that by the time we arrived the lot was full with a line of cars waiting for someone to leave. We continued on up the highway and parked at the edge of a ridge and walked to the trailhead.

Since Sedona is in northern Arizona the temperature was much lower and more pleasant that what we'd experienced thus far. The trail is six miles out and back, and while the end at 3 miles is very anti-climactic, the trail itself is lined with beautiful rock formations and, in October, trees with changing leaves in a million colors.

Back on the road back to town we grabbed dinner at the Wildflower Bread Company. It was delicious! The kitchen left the cheese off Neil's sandwich so the manager offered to either make it again or let us have dessert for free. We chose a size-of-your-face cinnamon roll to save for breakfast the next day.

The AMusinGlass art studio caught Ginger's eye so we dropped in and she picked up a beautiful dichroic glass pendant. Then it was a quick step in and out at a bead shop before hitting the road back to Phoenix.
