First Annual Iron Chef Euless - May 25, 2009
The Iron Chef competition was thrown down many months ago. Thomas and James agreed to the challenge, to take place on Memorial Day, May 25, 2009. Teams arose: Team Delaney led by Iron Chef Thomas and accompanied by his sous chef Ed, and Team Beyer led by Iron Chef James and accompanied by his sous chef, none other than Ginger Dickens. And the secret ingredient was revealed at the start of the competition... Dublin Dr. Pepper! The challenge... each team was to prepare an appetizer, entrée, and dessert, all containing the secret ingredient.
Team Beyer made chicken/apple/pearl onion skewers with a reduction of Dr. Pepper glaze off the grill for the appetizer. The main dish was pork tenderloin oven baked with Dr. Pepper. Dessert was Dr. Pepper custard served in won ton shells.
Team Delaney grilled shrimp/bacon skewers with a similar reduction of Dr. Pepper glaze as their appetizer. The entrée was pork chops marinated in Dr. Pepper and grilled. Dessert was Dr. Pepper bananas foster.
The judges tasted and deliberated... and the voting was very close. Who was the winner? Whose Cuisine reigned supreme?
