New York Vacation: September 2014

Browse vacation days

Wednesday, September 3 - Off to New York

We didn't have to wake up too early in the morning on Wednesday... after all, this is vacation! Our flight out of DFW was at 10:30, and we arrived at La Guardia around 3:00 pm and deciphered the city bus and subway systems to arrive at our hotel. Ginger books Marriott properties almost exclusively for their consistent quality and for the breakfast inclusion. We stayed at the Fairfield Inn by Marriott, Queensboro bridge, in Queens. While it was a bit of a distance to get into the Manhattan, the price was what we were willing to pay, and there were two subway stations close by, making travel to just about anywhere in the city fairly quick. Our 10-day MTA passes would get us anywhere we wanted to go during our stay.

Once we had checked in and dropped our bags in our room, we hit the ground running and took on the city. After a very late lunch at the nearby Green Tea Deli, we took a quick look at the maps and then it was off toward Manhattan. Since it was fairly late in the afternoon, we walked around midtown for a bit, between 5th Avenue and Broadway, North of 54th Street and through the Southern part of Central Park. Of course, since this was vacation and our late lunch kind of counted as dinner, we had to look for ice cream, finding Grom Italian gelateria on Broadway, where we enjoyed our evening gelato and coffee.

We turned in fairly early, leaving Manhattan by dark and getting back to our hotel for a good night's sleep to get ready for a big day the next day.
