Riviera Maya Vacation
When it came time in 2007 to start thinking about another vacation, we started talking about going somewhere tropical. We began planning our trip by contacting Mischelle at Valley Ranch Vacations (now Primo Travel Services) - the same person who helped us with our honeymoon in 2003.
Since we have heard great things about vacationing in certain areas in Mexico, and since it is relatively inexpensive and close to home (a 2-hour flight straight South rather than a 10-hour flight across 7 time zones to get to Europe), we settled on spending four nights at the Aventura Spa Palace in the Riviera Maya, or Mayan Riviera, on the East cost of the Yucatan Peninsula. The Aventura Spa Palace is an all-inclusive, adults-only resort about an hour bus ride South of the Cancun airport.
You have to lay around and do nothing at least part of the time while at a beach resort, but you can't just lay around and do nothing (well, we can't). So we booked three excursions/activities, two of which are included in the stay at the resort. We went all out on Monday, spending a little extra money for a half day trip to Dolphin Discovery, where we swam and played with dolphins, manatees, and a sea lion. On Tuesday, we took a day excursion to a the nearby Marina Maroma Paradise to snorkel and lay on the beach a bit. On Wednesday, we visited the ruins at Tulum, an hour or so south of the resort.
We kept sort of a log and took a bunch of pictures, compiling a "virtual vacation" for you to enjoy.
