The Big Dig - June 19-20, 2010

Ginger's been changing the backyard in phases. The latest phase was this weekend. The main goals were to dig out a trench of the rock-hard terrible dirt in the "terrace" area and fill it with plants and good soil, to plant 4 crepe myrtles and some other varietals, and to remove the remaining pink stones from in front off the railroad tie retaining wall.

Neil also had to replace/repair two sprinkler heads because Abby had decided in the last few weeks that she wanted to snack on them. After digging around them and removing the sprinkler head assembly, a trip to The Home Depot was needed to replace just the two nozzles at $1.69 each.

With the help of Phil and Shirley, all goals were accomplished in a Saturday morning and Sunday evening work time. We paid them back in lunch and ice cream.

As an aside, we don't know why, but when there are large branches or plants on the ground, Throckmorton likes to walk through them and within them, v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y. It's like he's hunting or something. Whatev'.

Thank you Phil and Shirley for helping do the heavy work on Saturday!
